Ice Flower CAL: Part 5 – Corners!

Hello and welcome to yet another part of this amazing CAL! This week you’ll be working on making four corners, turning the flower/octagon into a square block. All four corners will be made individually, so be prepared to work away a lot of ends… It’s all worth it though! IMAG1393_1 Doorgaan met lezen “Ice Flower CAL: Part 5 – Corners!”

Ice Flower CAL: Part 3!

Hello and welcome to another part of this crazy CAL! This week you’ll be playing with some fun popcorn stitches! At the end of this part, it will look like there’s little flower buds all around your center flower. I really love popcorns for these kinds of things!IMAG1323_1.jpg

Ice Flower CAL: Part 2!

So here we are with another part of our beautiful Ice Flower CAL. This week, you’ll be turning the flower we made into something just in between an octagon and an eight-pointed star. These rows also still kinda look like petals, and are an extension of the center flower. IMAG1275_1

So, with that said, let’s get started!

Cloth diapers and Gaming

Hello,

I’m very sorry for not having posted anything recently. My baby is due in about two months so I’m panicking a little… I have a son but I’ve never had two children before, so I don’t really know how I’ll manage!

Anyway, to calm down my mind a bit, I’ve started making cloth diaper covers. I’m sewing most of them so I haven’t been posting it since this is supposed to be a crochet blog… But now I’ve moved past my neurotic mind to show it to you anyway.

I’m making 2 different kinds of diaper covers: IMAG1082_1

This one is made of an upcycled fleece blanket, using these instructions. I really like this pattern, I think it’s very cute and very easy to follow. And you can make these cloth diapers from pretty much any upcycled fleece blanket or wool sweater. I will find out how well it works, but both are supposed to stop any leaking quite well while still being breathable. Once I’m using them I’ll post a little update.

And this one is an adaptation of a crochet pattern I found. I’ve made it using a smaller size hook, because in the original pattern, the smallest size still seemed way too big for a newborn. So instead of using crochet hooks 5 and 5.5 I used 4 and 5. This made it more or less the same size as the other diaper, as you can see below.

I’ve also added a round of ribbing at the legs, using a front post/ back post technique.

So yeah, I’ve been quite busy doing that. And I don’t have a sewing machine so one of these sewn diapers takes all day to make … Especially considering I can only really work when my son’s asleep. He’s been a bit naughty lately, I think it’s pretty normal for his age (22 months) but it’s taking me ages just to write this post because I keep having to get up and stop him from doing stuff he shouldn’t be doing. I love him to bits but he gets annoying sometimes.

Another thing I’ve been keeping my mind distracted with and a reason why I’ve not been posting much is a game I’ve installed on the computer. It’s called skyrim and it’s a really awesome game, and arguably installing it wasn’t a very good idea… I’m not as much a gamer as I used to be though, and I try and stay productive too.

I’ll work on some more tutorials and patterns soon.

Maybe a skyrim-themed pattern? 😉

Until then, have fun crocheting and I see you next time!
