I’ve been feeling a bit low on energy, and on creativity lately. But then an idea popped into my mind. To make a cute little floral square, to make a top or something with!
So here it is! A cute little square for all of you to make! This is probably the simplest pattern I’ve ever written so far! Anyway, let’s get started!
Materials:
I used two colours of scheepjes cotton 8, and a 2,5 mm crochet hook.
Abbreviations (US terms):
Ch: chain
Sc: single crochet
Dc: double crochet
Blsc: back loop single crochet
Blhdc: back loop half double crochet
Bldc: back loop double crochet
Slst: slip stitch
St/sts: stitch/stitches
Sk: skip
Instructions:
Start by making a magic loop.
R1: ch1, (sc, ch1) in loop (counts as dc). 15 dc in loop (16 dc total). Join to ch1 w slst.
R2: ch1, sc in every stitch around (16 sc made), join to 1st sc w slst.
R3: [6dc in next st, slst in next st] 8 times. Fasten off.
See photo to know where to place the last slst.
R4 (with a different colour): start with a standing blsc in 4th dc of any shell. [Blhdc in next st, bldc in next st, ch2, skip next 2 sts. Bldc in next st, blhdc in next st, blsc in next 3 sts. Sk next 2 sts, blsc in next 3 sts] 4 times, omitting last blsc. Join to standing blsc w slst.
Hint: try working the back loop stitches in both the back loop and the “third loop,” as shown in the photo.
Another hint: the skipped stitches should be the slst and 1st dc of the next shell.
R5: ch1, (sc, ch1) in same st (counts as dc) work a dc in each st, and (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in each corner space around. Join to ch1 w slst. Fasten off.
Y
ou should now have 14 dc along each edge, and 4 ch2 corner spaces.
If that all checks out you can weave in the ends, and your square is finished!
Congratulations! You now have a beautiful square you can use for your next project 😉
